A Kaleidoscope of Spring by NAFA (SG)

The Peranakan Baba-Nyonya have a unique identity and cultural heritage. In this kaleidoscopic installation inspired by Peranakan motifs, participants are invited to manoeuvre reflective panels to piece together a precious heritage. Participants are invited to experience and to immerse themselves in a colourful spring world created by light projections

About NAFA

Established in 1938, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) is Singapore’s pioneer arts education institution, reputed for grooming diverse artistic talent. Through research-based practice and experiential learning, NAFA nurtures creative talent to lead at the forefront of both traditional and contemporary art practices. The academy offers full-time diploma and degree programmes across three schools: the School of Art and Design (which offers studies in fine art, design and media, fashion studies and 3D design), the School of Music, and the School of Arts Management, Dance and Theatre. NAFA counts 13 Cultural Medallion Award recipients and 13 Young Artist Award winners among prominent alumni, who are integral in the arts and creative fields, in Singapore and abroad.

A magical marble is discovered by children, leading to magical adventures. The Very Wishing Story transforms Queen Street for Night Festival 2016. The stories start at opposite ends of Queen Street – Supermama@SAM (“The Cave”) and National Design Centre (“The Forest”), converging at a lighting installation at Waterloo Artsplace (“The Waterfalls”).

Be charmed by the beauty of the komorebi light curtain and its shadows gently dancing across the atrium of the National Design Centre. Using contemporary technology to evoke the natural phenomenon of komorebi, this work explores the relation between nature and technology and challenges visitors to define komorebi for themselves.
